Tarangire National Park - 2 August 2015
In the morning, we met the remaining three travelers who had arrived from Amsterdam the night before: A mother, daughter and grand daughter. We met our two new guides, Nasoro and David. We met at the from of the lodge and packed our safari bags in the safari vehicles. The one complaint about the bags is that they behave like a bad dog: pulling you off balance or nipping at your heels.
We stopped at the Cultural Center on the way out of town. It has lots of shops and lots of art. We could have spent another hour exploring the gallery. If we had more time, we probably would have bought a painting of a dancing woman.
Lunch at the Park
We left Arusha and drove to Tarangire National Park. We ate a boxed lunch from the lodge at the entrance area to the park.Lots of birds were near the entrance: magpie shrike, Von Der Decken's hornbill, southern grey-headed sparrow, lapwing.
The baobab trees are located in Tarangire, but they are dying out because the elephants like to eat the young trees. Poachers used hollowed trees to store booty.
A superb specimen of a superb starling.
A nursing zebra with mommy.
Lilac-breasted roller and African hoopoe.
Male and female impala.
We found a water hole with a lot of wildebeest. Other wildlife was present, too: yellow-billed stork, sacred ibis, warthog (Ombeni's favorite animal).
A typical scene from Africa with acacia trees and wildebeests and a rare sighting of water bucks in Tarangire.
A baby impala and a close-up of an adult.
Elephants abound in Tarangire. A herd in a dry river bed and a lone bull wandering through the bush.
A close-up of a warthog, an African goose, a mongoose and a candelabra tree. Africa is full of life. Hakuna Matata.
We exited the park and drove to lake Burunge. The lodge has a reception area, dining area, bar, pool and open deck. We are in a tent that is on a raised platform with a thatched roof. We are not allowed outside out tents at night and must have nighttime security accompany us to our tent after dinner.
From the deck, we had an expansive view of the lake.
